Living in New York, you probably already know that it is not the greenest city in the world. No, I’m not just talking about grass and trees, or the lack thereof. I’m talking about the environment, carbon footprints and the like. There are however, a few ways that you can do your part to help the environment and still live in the city. There are apartment buildings in New York that are green.
New York green apartments are ones in which things like insulation is tip top to conserve energy on heating and cooling, windows are insulated, shower heads are of the water conserving type, recycling is encouraged, gardens may be on the roofs, and there may or may not be solar power.
Even living in an apartment, there are things that you can do to help the environment and cut your own carbon footprint. One is to always ensure that your doors and windows are shut tight. Use fluorescent light bulbs, keep your air filter for your heater clean and use a ceiling fan.
You can also do the normal things that we should all be doing daily anyway like recycling. There are also mini composters that you can use in apartment environments. If you have a pet, you already know about cleaning up after them, but you should be using the doggie doo bags that are biodegradable. We can always conserve water by only running full loads in things like the washing machine or dishwasher.
Always keep in mind too that you are more than likely already conserving carbons by taking public transportation or walking to where ever it is that you need to go. If you are not already doing this, New York is a great place to take advantage of public transportation. Traffic is a pain, but you can do your part by riding the subway or walking.
