Iconic steel cross stops on Staten Island en route to 9/11 church

After a cross-country journey of several thousand miles, a stainless steel cross that will stand at a church near Ground Zero made a stop at the “Postcards” memorial in St. George yesterday in a tribute to firefighters, cops and ordinary borough residents lost on 9/11.

“It’s a key stop to come to Staten Island,” said sculptor Jon Krawczyk, who drove the cross, in the bed of his pickup truck, from his home in California to New York, with many stops in between over the last 15 days. “This has been so much bigger than when I started out.”
